Singing Lessons
Sarah is a highly skilled musician and teacher with over 35 years of experience. She studied
for her degree in Music at Royal Holloway College, The University of London and her PGCE in Secondary Music at Southlands college, Roehampton Institute.
She started her teaching journey in Secondary school education and was a Head of Department for over 15 years. Ofsted described her department as ‘a strength of the school’ and she ran large choirs, instrumental ensembles, and directed many shows ranging from the Sound of Music to Jesus Christ Superstar. She ran a vibrant department with large GCSE Music classes and taught all year groups with the emphasis on practical music making and singing, always encouraging young people to enjoy music and build up independence and confidence.
Her latest phase of teaching has been as a peripatetic teacher working in Bolton and now for Wigan Music Service where she currently teach Voice, Piano/Keyboard and Woodwind to pupils in both Primary and Secondary schools. She also teaches privately in the Garstang and Goosnargh areas, and currently rents a room in Goosnargh Village Hall. In recent years she has taught A level Voice at John Rigby college, and this has led to also developing and promoting her skills as a professional piano accompanist.
Sarah teaches all age ranges and would describe herself as very versatile and modern in her approach to teaching and coaching. She encourages her students to try all genres of music, with the absolute priority being enjoyment. Where appropriate she enters students for ABRSM exams, and always supports them wherever possible in their musical pursuits such as auditions and scholarship applications.
Her biggest motivation in her teaching is to see her students grow in confidence and enjoy the wonderful world of music making
