We’re entering competition season and the good news is, you’re all invited! We don’t *select* students for our set routine competitions, they’re open to everyone from 3 years up and are BEGINNER competitions! (Nothing like you see on TV – I promise)
Does my child compete in a set routine?
Yes, everyone is entered into set routines. These routines are age appropriate and the competitors will then compete against the same age, doing the same level dance.
How much does it cost?
Tickets range from £19-£27 for a spectator or dancer, depending on which event and venue. Every child must be accompanied by a spectator. There is a £5 admin fee per dancer paid in cash directly to the teacher in attendance on the day so they get paid for the 12 hour days!
Are there any extra rehearsals?
Level 1 students will learn the routines in their weekly class. Level 2 students will have videos sent home and then 2-3 weeks ahead of the competition they will do the routines in class. Level 3+ will also have a video and learn it all at home.
Private lessons will be offered closer to the time for confidence boosters if needed but they’re not compulsory.
What does my child need to wear/hair for their set routine?
It’s your choice!
For Street Dance competitions, the funkier the better. Think bright colours, matching sets, cycling shorts and crop tops, baggy t-shirts, trainers etc! NO JEANS, SKIRTS, DRESSES OR TIGHTS.
For other dance styles, you’re more than welcome to wear your King’s uniform (leotard & tights) for the competition or you can contact Danielle and hire a costume from our costume hub for £5.
Hair choice is down to the student/parent but hair will need to be tied up!
Does my child compete in improvisation?
They do not HAVE to Improvisation but we strongly encourage it. They can do one set routine and improvisation, or two set routines. If it’s your child FIRST EVER competition their section is called “Class member”, for everyone else it’s beginners improvisation.
Does my child compete in freestyle (Street Dance)?
Yes, everyone is entered into freestyle. If it’s your child FIRST EVER street competition their section is called “Class member Freestyle”, for everyone else it’s beginners freestyle.
What does my child need to wear for their improvisation/freestyle?
The same as their set routine OR they can get a new outfit. It’s up to you!
How do we get in on the day?
Wristbands will be given out before the competition. Everyone, including spectators will need a wristband to enter.
How does the placing work?
Children will compete against other children of exactly the same age dancing the same routine as them, they will compete through heats to get to the semi final and finally to the final 8-10 places. Please note, some rounds have large numbers so your child will need to get themselves to the front of the group, eyes up and dance huge with loads of performance.
What time do I need to arrive?
The information regarding arrival times and running order will be shared nearer the time. The day is usually split into three sections and into age groups. Please make sure you are in the relevant WhatsApp groups to keep up to date.
