FESTIVAL STUDENTS – FAQS & REMINDERS
Please note Festival students are invite only.
FESTIVAL FACEBOOK GROUP
● Weekly practice videos are uploaded here for students to work on at home, along with teacher feedback and specific corrections.
● Upcoming festival dates are also shared here. You can sign up by commenting on the posts.
● We aim to attend at least one festival every month. There is no obligation to attend them all, you can decide how many your child participates in.
From experience, the more times a child performs the same routine on stage, the more confident and skilled they become. Performing regularly also allows them to compete against a range of schools, receive varied adjudicator feedback, and apply this learning back in class.
FESTIVAL WHATSAPP GROUP
● Weekly reminders are posted here about which week we’re on (Week 1/Week 2).
● You’ll also receive notifications when festival invoices have been sent.
● On festival days, the group is used for updates such as running order, times, and locations. It also becomes a space to share achievements and celebrate the dancers together.
When will my child be ready?
The teachers will keep you updated with when your child’s routine will be ready. Each dancer learns differently and at different times.
Important Reminders
Festival students are specially selected for their high achievement in festival genres. Spaces are limited and highly sought after. If it becomes clear that a student is not practising outside of lesson time and progress is being held back, we may need to remove them from the festival team. This ensures both your investment and our teaching time are not wasted.
Home Practise
We recommend running routines at home most nights where possible (while understanding that busy family life sometimes gets in the way). However, it is very clear when a child has not practised at all, as choreography must then be re-taught, slowing down their progress.
Please don’t worry about teaching technique, that’s our job. What we ask is that you support your child in remembering choreography and performance skills.
Some helpful tools:
● Connect your phone to the TV for easier viewing of practice videos.
● Write down the routine in order and display it somewhere visible at home.
● In the weeks leading up to a festival, dancers should be practising without the videos so they can fully retain the choreography. Your written list will be a useful prompt if they get stuck.
Cancellation Policy
If you know in advance your child cannot attend a festival private lesson, please let us know so we can offer the slot to another student.
If a lesson is missed without notice and we cannot fill the space, you will still be charged for that lesson. Future festival lessons can only continue once the balance is settled.
