The ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) examinations are world renowned qualifications designed to build strong technical foundations, artistic expression, and confidence in dancers. As one of the world’s leading dance examination boards, the ISTD offers a structured pathway that takes dancers from their very first steps all the way to professional teaching careers.
Exam Pathways
Pre-Primary & Primary: Fun, encouraging introductions for young children that focus on developing basic rhythm, coordination, and spatial awareness.
Graded Examinations (Grades 1–6): Structured assessments that progressively develop technical precision, musicality, and performance style, awarded as Pass, Merit, or Distinction.
Vocational Grades (Intermediate Foundation to Advanced 2): Highly rigorous training for dancers aiming for full-time professional theatre or dance careers.
Professional Teaching Qualifications: Internationally recognised teaching pathways (such as the DDE, Licentiate, and Fellowship) for those pursuing dance education.
