Tap Dance

Tap Dance is a fast, intricate, flashy, and exhilarating discipline where your feet become the instrument.

It is the ultimate combination of dance, fitness, and percussion. For younger dancers, it is also the perfect, rare opportunity to make plenty of noise in a structured, high-energy environment!

Exploring the Two Dimensions of Tap

Our comprehensive classes cover both primary styles of tap dance, building highly versatile and rhythmically intelligent dancers:

Broadway Tap: A performance-heavy style that blends intricate rhythm sequences with the sweeping arm lines of ballet and jazz. This is the iconic style seen in West End and Broadway musical theatre productions.

Rhythm Tap: An athletic, sound-focused discipline concentrated purely on complex footwork, syncopated rhythms, and building impressive, rapid-fire speeds.

The Hidden Benefits of Tap Dance

While it feels like an energetic, fun-filled workout, tap training develops a wide range of essential physical and mental skills:

“Maths in Disguise”: Dancers learn to count music, decode time signatures, and create complex counter-rhythms. Memorising these intricate acoustic patterns gives the brain an exceptional workout.

Elite Balance & Coordination: Tap forces dancers to remain light on their feet. This rapidly enhances full-body coordination, spatial awareness, and ankle strength.

High-Energy Aerobics: The fast-paced nature of continuous tap sequences provides an excellent cardiovascular workout that builds stamina and burns excess energy.

Focus & Determination: Mastering precise heel-and-toe clicks teaches students patience, persistence, and deep concentration.

Our Tap Dance Classes follow the syllabus of the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) Tap Dance Faculty; the ISTD, founded in 1904, is one of the world’s leading dance examination boards and maintains the highest standards.
